Workshops

A range of workshops are currently available.  Each workshop lasts between 1 hour and 1 hour 30 minutes and provides practical ideas and activities for parents to use at home with their Under 5's.  Some workshops also include a FREE goody bag for parents to support them to carry out the activities at home.

After each workshop you will be provided with evidence to share with OFSTED which is analysed to show initial outcomes for the families that have attended.

As easy as 1, 2, 3

Early Maths & Number (1 hour)

Based on the mathematics area of learning and development outlined in the EYFS, this workshop offers parents fun ideas and activities to support their children's mathematical experiences at home. 

Line, dot, squiggle

Early Writing (1 hour)

Early writing focuses on children's early mark making and how best to support this through a range of media accessible in the home environment.  It offers ideas to parents on how to foster a positive writing environment which encourages children to 'write' although not necessarily using the conventional 'pen and paper' method. This workshop also includes a section on boys writing.

Each parent receives an 'Early Writing Goody Bag'

As easy as ABC

Phonics (1 hour 30 mins)

The Phonics workshop is based on the Letters & Sounds publication and supports parents understanding of early phonics for children in Pre-School and Nursery through to Reception aged children and beyond.  It includes a range of games and activities they can play with their children to support the learning of phonics.

Each family attending will receive phonics resources they can use with their child, including songs and rhymes and links to websites that support the learning of phonics.

Once Upon A Time

Early Reading (1 hour)

This workshop focuses on starting reading with your baby and beyond into later years.  It also briefly focuses on phonics.  It shows parents ideas and techniques for early reading and also ideas for those who are not confident adult readers.

Each parent is given a FREE book.

Boys will be Boys

Boys Learning & Development

This workshop focuses specifically on boys development and how female parents and carers can challenge their own perceptions of learning to support their boys.  It focuses on a range of learning and development areas and how to get the best out of boys learning using play based techniques.

Peace at Last

e-Safety & Technology (including TV) and your under 5 (1 hour)

Peace at Last looks at modern technology & TV and is an open discussion based workshop regarding what children see on TV and how some programs and applications can support children's learning, with adult support.  It also looks at how to keep children safe online. 

A workshop for parents of children starting pre-school or school that gives an insight into their day, how they learn, what to expect and how to prepare them for their new start.

Girls will be Girls

Girls learning and development (1 hr 30mins)

A workshop that focuses on how girls learn and develop. It focuses on a range of learning and development areas and how parents can get the best from their daughter's learning and development through play based techniques.

Learning to Talk

Communication and Language (1 hr 30mins)

A fun practical workshop that supports parents understand how young children communicate and how to support language and communication skills through play.
